Myers’s Dark Rum, in the set or 10 (ten) 50 ml "airplane-sized" bottles, is a bold, richly flavorful Jamaican rum that serves as a classic workhorse in the cocktail world. With deep molasses warmth, dark chocolate undertones, and a smoky, oak-driven finish, it provides a robust foundation for Tiki-style drinks and rich mixed coc k tails. Its character shines most when used to add depth and authenticity to cocktails rather than for delicate sipping.
Overview & Heritage
-
Origin & Tradition
Founded in 1879 by Frederick Louis Myers, this rum is distilled in Jamaica and is a blend of up to nine pot- and continuous-distilled rums—reflecting over a century of rum-making tradition. -
Production Process
Crafted exclusively from pure Jamaican molasses, it is double-distilled and matured for up to four years in white oak barrels, providing complexity and that signature dark color.
Tasting Profile
-
Aroma (Nose)
Deep, evocative scents of blackstrap molasses, coffee, allspice, hazelnut, toffee, and a hint of ripe pineapple. -
Palate (Taste)
Rich and buttery on the entry, with flavors of sugar cane, caramel, tobacco, leather, honey, and dark chocolate layered with raisin and fig. -
Finish
Long and indulgent, with lingering notes of dark chocolate, brown sugar, smoky oak, and a touch of bitterness that gives it depth.
Context & Usage
-
Signature Strength
Bottled at 40% ABV (80 proof)—a standard strength that balances bold flavor with drinkability. -
Mixology Star
Recognized more as a mixing rum than a delicate sipper, Myers’s Dark adds layers of flavor and "oomph" to cocktails like Mai Tais, Zombies, and dark rum & cola. -
Cooking Companion
Its intense richness also makes it a popular ingredient in both sweet (e.g., rum cakes) and savory dishes that benefit from deep, caramelized flavor.
